This piece of footage is fascinating on many levels. I have just completed a 16mm Bolex filmmaking course at No.W.Here so I look at materials like this with a fresh interest and more nuanced knowledge of how such films were made. The content is intriguing for how many women are cycling in the parade – there is almost parity! – and of course the nature of their dress. All women are in skirts, which billow and flap in the wind. It appears that the women’s garments would have been in light bright colours while men are mostly attired in dark suits. No sightings of bloomers here.
