John and Gray have been working on the bicycle component of the automaton over the past week with great results. With their permission I use their images and description of the process below:
They started with an old Pashley classic loop frame.
And spent some time stripping and cleaning it up.
They then made a base for the display from some old boards found in/near/on top of Ed’s the garage.
Rear support from the roller assembly. Very rigid
Front wheel mount and hand crank
Hand crank shaft and bearing mounts
Idle crank driver and mini chain
Lining up the chain drive
Drive gear and chain
Adding the drive boss
Adding the idle crank
all in line
Preparing the windlass
Making the handle
