I was invited on 6/7 December to travel to Warsaw to speak at the Invisible Design – On the move: How mobility challenges the design field? It was a super cold weekend but the welcome was warm. I always enjoy spending time with designers, artists and researchers approaching similar topics to me – design, mobility, bodies, space – but from completely different perspectives. I took the opportunity to present my work with a focus on one particular patent inventor – Alice Louisa Bygrave. I talked about her life, influences, design, the context of her practice and the challenges she faced.
While I was in Warsaw I managed to squeeze in a brief visit to Muzeum Techniki which had fascinating collections of technologies from turn of last century flying machines and bicycles to the telegraph and telephone, early computers and washing machines.
I plan to go back for a more leisurely stroll through the treasures.
