I was very pleased to be asked to be on a panel of ‘Women in Maker/Hacker Culture’ in an event hosted by Women in Tech: An Intel Center for Social Computing and FemTechNet Collaboration. It was in The New School, New York and featured some of my favourite women in tech – Mel Gregg, Nina Wakeford, Genevieve Bell, Anne Balsamo, Elizabeth Churchill, Lilly Nguyen, Christina Dunbar-Hester and Seda Gurses.
I talked about my experiences of maker and hacker culture in my WiFi work and also in my current Bikes & Bloomers research. I had a full Alice Louisa Bygrave convertible cycle costume in my bag, so chose to wear it for the session. This was a good and slightly bad idea.
It was clearly good, given the positive reactions…..
…but the air-con in the room was broken. This me trying not to overheat in many layers of tweed.
