I was invited by Professor Ramia Mazé to visit Aalto University in Helsinki to give a keynote as part of the welcome to new MA Design students and to meet with researchers.
It was a really inspiring visit. Helsinki is a fantastic city – of amazing architecture, design, coastal living, sauna culture. Aalto University, designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto and contemporaries is similarly amazing. And, the designers, researchers, staff and students I met during my visit were doing diverse theoretically rich creative practice research. (Check out for example: The Department of Seaweed – https://www.department-of-seaweed.com and also #COLLEEX – a collaboratory for ethnographic experimentation – https://colleex.wordpress.com).
I am hoping to collaborate more with Aalto design people in the future!
Huge thanks to Ramia for hosting me so well and thanks to Cansu Pylkkänen for the talk images.
